The cleaning frequency of a pure water system needs to be dynamically adjusted based on the system type, usage intensity, and water quality; a one-size-fits-all approach is not possible. Here are some scientific recommendations for different scenarios:

 

Household/Small Commercial Pure Water Systems

Daily Flushing: If the system has been idle for more than 3 days, flush the drinking faucet for 3-5 minutes; if idle for more than 10 days, flush for at least 15 minutes to prevent biofilm growth on the filter surface.

Chemical Cleaning: When the water flow slows down, takes more than 25 seconds to fill a cup, or the TDS value rises significantly, perform a three-stage flushing method for deep cleaning.

Filter Replacement: Replace PP cotton and activated carbon filters every 3-12 months; replace the RO membrane every 1-2 years, referring to the manufacturer's instructions for specific times.

 

Industrial/Laboratory Grade Pure Water System

Reverse Osmosis (RO) System Cleaning Timing: Cleaning is mandatory when any of the following occurs:

Standardized permeate flow rate decreases by 10–15%

Desalination rate decreases by 10–15%

Operating pressure or inter-stage pressure differential increases by 10–15%
The frequency of cleaning is directly related to the pretreatment effect: If SDI15 < 3, cleaning may be required 4 times per year; if SDI15 ≈ 5, the cleaning frequency needs to be doubled.

Pipeline and Tank Cleaning Cycle:

During continuous production: Clean purified water storage tanks, pipes, and pumps weekly.

Before resuming use after a shutdown: A thorough cleaning is mandatory.

UV Lamp: Replace every 2000 hours to ensure disinfection efficiency.

Pretreatment Unit Maintenance:

Quartz Sand Filter: Backwash daily.

Activated Carbon Filter: Forward/backwash daily; replace activated carbon and disinfect every 6 months.

Security Filter: Generally clean weekly, depending on the raw water conditions.
