A salt water purification plant for electroplating is a treatment system that converts high-TDS / brackish / saline water into low-salt, low-hardness, low-metal water suitable for plating bath make-up, rinsing, and utility use.

Why Electroplating Requires Salt Water Purification

Untreated or brackish water contains dissolved ions (such as chlorides and carbonates) that can ruin the plating quality.

  • Preventing Bath Contamination: Impurities in salt water can react with plating chemicals, leading to "bath poisoning" and the frequent need to replace expensive chemical solutions.
  • Surface Quality: Purified water ensures a "spot-free" rinse, preventing mineral deposits that cause pitting, cloudiness, or poor adhesion of the metal layer.
  • Conductivity Control: Accurate electroplating depends on precise electrical conductivity in the bath; removing dissolved salts allows for total control over the plating environment.

Where Purified Water Is Used In Electroplating

  • Plating bath make-up (preparing/adjusting bath chemistry)
  • Rinsing (after degreasing, pickling, plating, passivation)
  • DI/DM final rinse (critical for finish quality)
  • Scrubbers & utilities (less strict)

Recommended System (most Common & Practical)

For saline / brackish raw water, the standard is:

Pretreatment + RO + EDI polishing

Why add EDI after RO?

RO typically makes "good" water, but electroplating often needs very low conductivity for final rinse and bath consistency.

Important Design Points For Electroplating Plants

1) Strong pretreatment (to protect membranes)

Plating plants often have variable raw water quality; target stable feed to RO:

Iron/manganese removal (if present)

SDI control (often UF helps)

Dechlorination before RO membranes

2) Corrosion-resistant materials

Use FRP/UPVC/PP/SS316L appropriately-salty water and plating environments are corrosive.

Typical Capacities

Small plating shop: 0.5–2 m³/hr
Medium: 3–10 m³/hr
Large OEM line: 10–50+ m³/hr

Quick Recommendation By Goal

  • Good rinsing + process water: Pretreatment + RO
  • High finish quality / final rinse: RO + Mixed Bed DI (or EDI)
  • Strict discharge rules: Add recycle + ZLD (MEE/ATFD for reject)

If you share these 5 details, we can design the suitable Salt Water Purification Plant For Electroplating

Raw water source (tapwater/brackish/borewell) + TDS

Required treated flow (LPH or m³/hr)

Plating type (Zn, Ni, Cr, Cu, anodizing, etc.)

Which use: bath make-up / rinse / final DI rinse (% split)
